Women's changes in the 1920's
Many important things happened in the
1920s (Prohibition, jazz music, Art Deco...) But in our minds, one of the more significant developments of the decade was fashion entering the modern era. After decades of rigid Victorian style (think corsets and petticoats), fashion was finally becoming more relaxed.
The movement, led by flappers (young ladies who pushed social norms by drinking, smoking and wearing styles like short hemlines and excessive makeup), paved the way for what fashion has become
today.
Women went from wearing long dresses and things that would cover them but still look ladylike to wearing flapper dresses with long fringe on the bottom. They would also wear beads and beaded headbands. feather head bands were also a big thing back then.

Women's Hair
Another highlight of the '20s that exemplified change was the evolution of women's hairstyles. Ladies were saying goodbye to their long Victorian locks and welcoming much shorter hairdos. The mass appeal of this trend wasn't accepted by many salons, so barbers became the go-to for 1920's hairdressing. Armed with close-cutting scissors known as shears, these bold women were in well-trained hands. The most popular hairstyles were the bob and other short hairstyles.
Shoes
Women wore strappy heels and heels with laces as shown below. When women wore sneakers they had small heels and were basically just smaller heels.
Accessories
Women loved their beads and boas. Feather boas were big with beads and a flapper dress. Headbands with a feather on it were also a favorite with the girls. Tight hats that fit right to women's heads and big hats were in style. Women also would wear clip on earrings that would clamp to your ear. Men wore fedoras and either a tie or a bow tie. Men didn't have as many accessories as women did.
Men's Clothes
Cultural changes after World War I were vast, and men's fashion in the 1920s went through as radical a transformation as women's, although it's much less discussed in the annals of fashion and cultural history. The Jazz Age gave
everyone an edgier take on life, and it was reflected in clothing. Men wore suits with either vest or a suit coat. Gangsters were usually the ones to wear suit coats. For shoes they would wear nice dress shoes.
